Well, they say things come in threes… and apparently they really do!
I recently shared the very exciting news that I’d made it through to the final for Wedding Cake Artist of the Year at the Cake & Bake International Awards 2026.
That was exciting enough on its own, but then we found out that Cakes by Carol had made the final in another TWO categories!
Yep, you read that correctly. Three finals. Buzzing is probably an understatement!
This year we’re finalists for:
- Wedding Cake Artist of the Year – Carol Smith
- Most Supportive Partner of the Year – Shane Smith
- Best Product of the Year – Sharp Edge Smoother
We are both honestly overwhelmed. These awards are down to nominations from the public, so knowing that people have taken the time to put our names and the Sharp Edge Smoother – forward really does mean so much to us.
Wedding Cake Artist of the Year
Being shortlisted for Wedding Cake Artist of the Year is obviously incredibly special to me.
Wedding cakes have been such a huge part of my life and my business over the years, and I’ve been lucky enough to create so many completely different designs for my couples. You can see some of my wedding cake designs and previous work here.
There have been countless hours of designing, baking, decorating, delivering and setting up cakes – not to mention the occasional stressful moment along the way!
Every wedding cake is different, and I still love taking a couple’s ideas and turning them into something that becomes part of their wedding day.
To have that work recognised and to find myself amongst the finalists for Wedding Cake Artist of the Year is a very proud moment.
I couldn’t do any of it without the lovely couples who trust me with such an important part of their day, so a massive thank you to everyone who has supported Cakes by Carol over the years.
Most Supportive Partner of the Year – Shane
Now this one might just be my favourite!
Most of you who know us will know that Shane is the quieter one behind the scenes at Cakes by Carol, but that certainly doesn’t mean he isn’t a huge part of what we do.
He carries wedding cakes, helps with our live demonstrations, answers questions and is always there helping out when we’re at Cake International.
Basically, he’s a bit of a godsend.
More importantly, he’s the one who keeps me sane, picks me up when things don’t quite go to plan and, occasionally, tells me to shut up when I need to!
I already know he’s the best supporter anyone could have, so seeing him nominated for Most Supportive Partner of the Year is just lovely.
And no, before anyone asks, he’s not for sale! 😂
Best Product of the Year – The Sharp Edge Smoother
Then there’s nomination number three – our Sharp Edge Smoother is a finalist for Best Product of the Year.
Anyone who has followed me for a while will know just how much I love a good sharp edge on a cake.
The Sharp Edge Smoother was created to help cake decorators achieve those lovely clean, professional-looking edges more easily, so seeing something we developed to solve a genuine cake decorating problem recognised in this way is brilliant.
Even better is knowing that people who actually use the Sharp Edge Smoother thought enough of it to nominate it.
So, if you own one and you were one of the lovely people who put it forward – thank you!
It really does mean a lot.
Three Nominations for Cakes by Carol
When I look at the three categories together, I think that’s what makes this year feel particularly special.
There’s an award recognising my wedding cake work, one recognising a cake decorating product we’ve developed, and one recognising the person who does so much to support everything that happens at Cakes by Carol behind the scenes.
Not one, but three!
Whatever happens next, we’re incredibly proud to have made it this far.
Of course, it would be rather lovely to bring an award (or three!) home too…
